Approximately 6 days ago the Crypti Foundation mainnet nodes were taken offline. This was due to some problems we were experiencing with the PoT algorithm and processing, which was causing multiple forks to occur. Due to the extent of the possible damage that could be caused by allowing these forks to continue, we decided to take down our 50 main net nodes until a proper solution could be devised to fix the problem.

The core problem lies with the current PoT implementation, that uses inter-node up-time requests in order to gain a consensus between the nodes in a 60 second block interval. After introducing nodes from multiple countries, with different latencies, varying performance (for instance 1 Gb RAM vs 512 Mb), as well as experiencing several forms of attack on the network, we realized that the current solution would not be scalable to the extent necessary.

We are currently researching an alternative, more efficient solution. We estimate that this solution will take at least 2 weeks to complete and may require us to bring in outside help to deduce the best solution to the problem. This is why we raised funds and we will do whatever it takes to come up with not just an answer, but the right answer. Just to be clear, we are nowhere near giving up. We know that Crypti is an idea worth fighting for and you wouldn’t be here if you didn’t feel the same.

In order to restore the Crypti network as soon as possible, we have decided to introduce an intermediate solution.

This temporary solution uses a simplified PoT calculation algorithm. The node's uptime plays an important part in the block forging process. Each time a node forges a block, it calculates a weight value for the new block. This calculation is affected by the node uptime. The higher the uptime, the greater the chance of getting a higher block weight. The node with the highest block weight wins. This process gives an equal chance for all nodes to forge blocks, while still enforcing the PoT concept. Again, this is an intermediate solution while we are re-working the PoT to a request-less mode of operation.

We have already enabled this temporary solution on our testnet and are monitoring it to ensure it will run consistently. Our goal is to finalize testing by Sunday 24:00 GMT the latest, and re-start our Foundation nodes with the new version. We will then be able to post the new wallets for download and the network will be back up and running.

We would just like to say THANK YOU to those of you who have stuck with us through this rough patch. While we dislike this temporary setback as much as you, we are working hard to come up with a proper long term solution, and looking to emerge from this episode with a winning solution.

As always, we will keep you up to date on the status as we work.
